Steelers Go Soft To Win Big With Graphware Software

Jan 29, 2009 (EWORLDWIRE via Comtex) --
The Steelers could buy software like Microsoft Office to do their play drawings and playbook tasks, but like thousands of other teams, the team chose Coach's Office, because it is engineered specifically for football.

Stan Webber, who developed the program, got the idea for Coach's Office after he met with a few NFL coaches at their office. "The amount of manual work the coaches did in a twelve-hour day surprised me," says Webber. "I then saw a technology opportunity where I could provide a solution."

Like Microsoft Office, Coach's Office offers a suite of programs. There's a Chalkboard module for drawing plays. A Playbook module with a special built-in word processor that coaches use to easily merge play diagrams. Coaches save hours each day preparing a practice script and printing play cards - replacing tedious tasks they used to do manually.

After drawing the plays and creating a playbook, coaches show a PowerPoint-type presentation using the Slideshow module. With the Video Player module, actual video plays are played along with the play diagram.

A veteran NFL coach, Steve Hagan remembers the days not too long ago when many hours were spent drawing diagrams and handwriting details on reams of paper. "It was a process that took hours of work and detracted from time we could spend coaching our players," said Hagen, "but now with Coach's Office, those days are over."

"You still have to make the plays on the field," Hagen said. "The software will not throw a touchdown pass, but it does make the teaching and learning process more efficient."

For a growing number of coaches, the days of drawing and handwriting information for playbooks, play cards, and game plans are history. New computer programs are changing the NFL coach's day-to-day tasks for the better.

It's not just the Steelers who are succeeding with Coach's Office. NCAA Division III power Mount Union College has won six Division III National Championships since using Coach's Office in 2000. "Coach's Office has allowed us to compile our football notebook in a very sharp format," said Vince Kehres, a coach for Mt. Union College. "We compile our game plan and share it with the players using the slide show component, which is like having a dry erase board on the wall. Coach's Office has allowed for information to be more readily shared with the players in less time and has helped our program substantially."

Super Bowl Sunday, company owners Stan and Vikki Webber will be glued to the TV, watching the biggest sports event in America and feeling a little pride in knowing that one of the teams will be using their software. Care to guess who they'll be rooting for? For more information, visit 'http://www.coachsoffice.com'.
